The Studio has added two sessions of Summer Sewing Camp to our schedule. Sewing Camp 1 is June 13 & 14 and is for ages 8+. We will learn sewing machine basics and safety while making several projects….a reversible tote bag and a quilted banner with a summer theme. Sewing Camp 2 is July 25 & 26 and we will again learn about basic sewing machine skills while making a cool project. We will design our own stuffed animal. We’ll begin by drawing a design and work it into a pattern, sew it up and take it to the final design details. Will it be a turquoise cat or a green fox? Maybe it will be a red and yellow striped turtle…..who knows what we will come up with in this fun class. Don’t miss it. This will be a very unique project. And chances are we will have time to make a matching tote bag to carry it in. The cute little frog above is a sample of what we have in mind. The Northern Shenandoah Valley Quilt Show was this weekend in Berryville and it was awesome. What a great job the local guilds did putting this show together. Just take a look at a very small selection of the almost two hundred quilts that were on display. So much talent!!!!!
We had a large group of painters use both brush and palette knife to create lovely wildflowers and mountain images today at The Studio. Everyone did a great job and had fun learning a new way to paint! Learning something new is always fun!!! One of our Wednesday evening art students, Leslie, reimagined Martin Johnson Heade’s Cattleya Orchid and Three Hummingbirds from 1871 and made it her own by recreating it into a collage piece. She painted each small piece seperately and then adhered it to a canvas raising it slightly. The effect is amazing! She even used small bits of moss to dangle from the upper trees. Great work Leslie. The patience you exhibited really paid off. It’s fabulous!
Our painters created these lovely “Bluebells by the River” paintings at yesterday’s Paint Party. Great! And it was fun having a couple work together to create the diptych so they can hang them together. That was fun! Check out the upcoming events at The Studio here.

We had a fun evening last night creating these “April Showers” banners as we continue our series of monthly quilted banners. These ladies did an awesome job on these. Love the little ducks!
